Global tax news, in one place

About AskColm

Built by Colm McCormack

I am a chartered accountant with about twenty years in indirect tax across EU VAT, US sales tax, digital services taxes and eInvoicing, and I hold an MBA from Trinity College Dublin. I am Global Head of Transaction Taxes at Autodesk, where I also lead tax technology, and I am currently on the CLIMB programme at Harvard Business School. I have been a member of the European Commission's VAT Expert Group since 2025, where I focus on practical implementation of ViDA, and I am a member of the Tax Executives Institute EMEA chapter. In 2017 I co-founded A Lust for Life, a mental health charity.

Outside of work I live in Dublin with my wife Paula, our son Cónal and our dog Goldie, who has so far shown no interest in VAT. I have a collection of more than 10,000 records, I used to DJ, and I am obsessed with Gaelic football, which between them cover most of what I do when I am not looking at tax.

AskColm is a free tax news aggregator for tax professionals. It started as a tool I built for myself, because I could not find one place that gave me a clean daily view of what was changing in tax around the world without a subscription or a sales call attached to it.

It now reads more than 130 sources every day, including tax authorities, advisers, specialist publishers and tax technology vendors, and has built up an archive of several thousand articles. Each one is filtered for a genuine tax angle, summarised, and tagged by tax type and country, so you can follow VAT, eInvoicing, Pillar Two, transfer pricing or whichever areas matter to you. The summaries are written by AI from what each source publishes, so they can contain errors and should never be treated as tax advice. Every article links back to the original, and that is where you should go for the detail. You can see the full list of sources on the sources page.

You can also ask a question in plain English using the search box on the home page. It searches the archive and points you to the relevant tax authority sites so you can check the primary source yourself.

Every week I send a newsletter with a short note from me and a hand picked selection of the stories I think were worth your time. Each issue is kept in the newsletter archive. The topic and country pages collect the latest news in one place if you would rather browse than subscribe.

The views on this site are my own and do not represent Autodesk or the European Commission. AskColm is free, has no ads, and I will never sell your data. If you find it useful, that is enough, and if you think a source is missing or a summary has got something wrong, I would like to hear about it.
